TYRANNOSAURUS WILSON IS A SWEET NAME

As alluded to yesterday, there are a lot of Wilsons running around. For example:
  • Brian Wilson sings "Surfin' USA" with the Beach Boys
  • Wilson Phillips sings "Hold On"
  • Wilson Harron, a UGuelph friend who stole my Saskatchewan flag
  • Woodrow Wilson declared war on Germany in 1917
  • Owen Wilson played Hutch with Ben Stiller as Starsky
  • Wilson, the best supporting actor nominee for Cast Away
  • Mark Wilson, a friend who will probably get to be an honourary uncle when I have kids (like Uncle Joey was on Full House). This will surely confuse my offspring as we are not related
  • Wilson Wilson, the neighbour on Home Improvement, not to be concerned with Mr. Wilson, neighbour of Dennis the Menace

So although it's easy to spell, the surname Wilson is something I get to share with a lot of nice people. When I started at my new job, I found out that I'm not the only Jesse Wilson on staff in Mountain View. Fortunately when picking out my email addresses, he left me the obvious one - jessewilson@.... Sharing the name was slightly annoying but not tragic - occasionally the mail room had to guess who a package was for, and I'd have to forward a voicemail or email his way once every week or so.

The payoff was this yesterday afternoon. One of Jesse Wilson's friends (I hear he's a hit with the ladies) intended to email him to ask if he wanted her extra tickets to the Thursday night Foo Fighters concert. I forwarded the message on with a quick note, PS -if you don't want 'em, I'll take 'em! Turns out the other Jesse Wilson is very cool and connected and already had tickets, so just by sharing his name I scored a sweet hookup for a pair of Foo Fighters tickets!

The concert was this evening and it was different. It was the Foo Fighter's first big acoustic tour, so they were experimenting a lot and Dave Grohl said it was the most fun he'd had in years! It was a fun show, but it was seated and I don't think I got into it as much as I would have, had it been electric. One neat thing was that the acousticness seemed more personal - Dave told detailed stories about writing his songs in a way that I'd never seen on stage before. It was a sweet gig, and I got to see it all just 'cause I'm a Jesse Wilson.

That is awesome. You'd be amazed how many times being named Bryan Chernick results in a similar situation (0).

Also, I'm enjoying the frequent updates! It takes a good 3 minutes out of the bordom of working.
